Born in the Brooklyn, New York neighborhood of Bedford-Stuyvesant in 1950, Valerie Faust is no stranger to hardship. Growing up in the thick of the post-war difficulties that plagued New York City in the 1950's, she developed a deep and lasting empathy for victims of hardship.
Valerie Faust graduated from Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus in 1978 with a BA in Elementary Education and a second major in Sociology. Her work in elementary schools in Brooklyn, Troy and Albany put her in touch with the challenges faced by individual families and their communities, and further sharpened her desire to serve the people.
Since relocating to Albany with her husband and four children in 1985, Valerie Faust has been a force for change in the community. She has volunteered her time to serve many organizations, including The Capital District African-American Coalition on HIV/AIDS, the 13 member Albany Gun Violence Task Force, and the Capital Area Council of Community Churches. Faust is also a leader for change and new beginnings by championing community service opportunities for children on Juvenile Probation.
Now, Valerie Faust is stepping up to fulfill her vision of a new Albany; one that encourages inclusiveness and opportunity for all residents of our city. She'll build on her unblemished record of dedicated community service. She'll draw on her experience of fighting for political, economic, and social justice on behalf of those who have no voice. And she'll use the lessons she learned by working with those in power to achieve the vision.
Valerie Faust is no career politician. She has no political debts to repay or favors to dole out. She is courageous, passionate, and smart. And her vision for a new Albany makes her the candidate best prepared to bring about real change.
Valerie Faust is simply the best candidate to become the 75th Mayor of Albany, NY.
